What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Since
constructing this product, I have learnt quite a few things concerning the
technology. At first, I found it quite hard when using Final Cut Pro to edit
the full scene but once I had grasped the technique of using it, my next
challenge was adding other things such as sound on top of the scene other parts
especially the opening which shows the name of our made up production company
as we used a clip we found somewhere else. In the editing area, the cutting
tool was very useful and easy to use once we knew how to use it.
For most of the new skills I had
to research how to do it beforehand or get help from someone who was
experienced, watching them and or being instructed by them to learn how to do
it.
For the introduction of our
production we decided to get something simple for production company clip.
Adding this took quite a while as the clip we chose had to be converted to into
an mp4 file before being uploaded into Final Cut. Compared to the production
clip application, the editing of the actual scene was quite easy as the clips
were very easy to upload straight onto Final Cut. At first, we started off by
increasing and decreasing the diegetic sound in order to see what we could do via
the conventions of horror movie when it comes to music. In the end, we decided
to cut the music and just use sound effects as this creates a more eerie atmosphere
and again adds to the sense of realism.
When we
recorded our clips for the scene, there was quite a variation in lighting as we
did it in different areas of the house and on different days which meant the
natural lighting was different. At first, we thought this would be quite a
problem as it may not look as professional as we wanted it to. However, we
learnt how to change the brightness and contrast of each clip. In some of the
clips, the lighting wasn’t very clear, however the dim lighting added to the
horror genre because of the dullness of the clip.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media project and why?
In order to answer this question, I looked at some of the most popular horror movies made and their distribution companies. These are the websites I chose to look at: http://www.timeout.com/london/film/best-horror-films http://www.film4.com/special-features/top-lists/top-50-horror-films After looking at both websites, I have found the types of products which are similar to our product. Shaun of the Dead - Universal Pictures, Evil Dead - New Line Cinema, Drag Me to Hell - Universal Pictures, The Possession - Lionsgate, Rosemary’s Baby - Paramount Pictures, The Cabin in the Woods – Lionsgate and The Exorcist – Warner Bros After looking at the different types of distribution companies for the horror movies, I would say that Lionsgate would be the best company to distribute our media product. I have decided to choose this distribution company because they have distributed other films such as The Possession which is based on supernatural beings possessing humans. The film received a lot of mixed reviews and is said to be inspired by ‘The Exorcist’, however it ranked number 1 in its opening weekend which shows the popularity of psychological horrors. Lionsgate are quite a big and well-known distribution company which means they can advertise our product very well. Another company that could help distribute our product is Warner Bros. Warner Bros have distributed big films such as ‘The Exorcist’ which is also included as a psychological horror. The movie as a whole is quite similar to our product because of the conventions it follows; however, the openings are quite different. ‘The Exorcist’ received best picture in 1973 and is one of the highest grossing films of all time. Warner Bros is a very large and well-known distribution company which means that they can advertise and distribute our product to a big audience resulting in larger audiences In conclusion, I think that Warner Bros and Lionsgate would both be suitable in distributing our product as the films they have distributed in the past have gained popularity especially the horror movies they have distributed.
